Sir John Hurt, award winning actor known for his roles in Harry Potter, The Elephant Man, Midnight Express, Alien, Watership Down, and A Man For All Seasons, lost his battle to cancer on Friday.
But here in the land of time travel, we know John Hurt best for his role as The War Doctor in the 50th anniversary special.
Unlike a fair amount of people, the decision to stick a Doctor into the middle of the regeneration order is one I didn’t mind too much. In fact, I loved the idea that it wasn’t the Eight’s Doctor who faced the Time War.
And John Hurt did a fabulous job bouncing off of David Tennant and Matt Smith.
This isn’t your traditional obituary. John Hurt lost his battle with cancer on January 2017 at age 77.
He was knighted in 2015, the same year he learned he had cancer.
His IMDb page boats over 200 acting credits over his long and prolific career and no genre seemed to be untouched by his work.
No Whovian is untouched by his work.
Farewell, John Hurt.
And thank you.
