Or, perhaps, of a legendary vampire who once sought death, and of a high school senior who once tuned out life doing their dandy best to attend to an embarrassing wealth of aberrations in a provincial town.

Bob Ryan was a repeater. He went to bed on December 31, 1992. When he awoke it was January 1, 1992. After the shock wore off he realized he had a vast knowledge of things that would happen that year. Although he was only 14 years old again after the reset, he managed to amass more than a million dollars in gambling winnings. He also improved himself physically, socially, and intellectually. He thought the extra year had really enhanced his life.
The next Dec. 31 became 1993 as it was supposed to, and Bob though the repeat had been a one year aberration. However 1993 was also repeated, as was 1994, 1995 and 1996. Each time a year repeated Bob lived one year that was eliminated on New Years’ Day, and then lived the same year over again. His knowledge of what happened the first year enabled him to make changes.
Along the way Bob met other repeaters. Some became friends and they worked together to change local and national events that they though was necessary to improve or eliminate. Most changes were confined to smaller local events, but Bob and a repeater friend also interfered with the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
Not all repeaters agreed with their changes. One repeater was a rogue FBI agent who decided to eliminate the members of Mike’s group. He assassinated one repeater right in front of Bob and attacked several others this culminated with a trial where secrets of repeating might be revealed with startling consequences along with the far reaching implications of what the existence of this ability might mean for society.

Everybody Dreams
For Mathias and Annaline Taylor and their children out of West Ohio, moving to Texas meant starting a new life. Even if it was in the hot, dusty, cactus and thorn bush country of the West Territories. The air was clean there, and the land was cheap, and a person could make a life out there. Even if it was hard. Even with the droughts, and the indians, and the hard-rocky land fighting them every day, it’d be a life of their own. Not beholding to anyone, except themselves.
But then the red skies came, and the whole world changed. Walk outside your door in the morning and you might find a forest, or a lake, or almost anything other than what you expected to see. And some people got lost, and some people came back. But they were different than they were before.
Some of them remembered. And some of them didn’t. For a lot of people though, it seemed like a second chance to do what maybe you had always dreamed of. You could start over again. You could do it right this time. You could do something different than you did the first time, or the second, or the third, or…
But even after people got it, it wasn’t always, what they was expecting. Seemed like there was a price sometimes, to pay for getting that second chance. And for some, that price would be too high.
