At the end of The Lost Generation, Carol gave Lucy the mysterious journal that Flynn somehow ends up with. I really want to know how he gets the journal! The Time Team now knows Rittenhouse is meddling in Mason Industries but they have to pretend like they don’t know a thing.

A priest notices Flynn sitting in the pew for hours and can’t leave him looking like that. Flynn explains that he thought his job was important and could help a lot of people and hopefully bring his wife back home, but rather than making things better, it’s making it worse. The priest tells Flynn to trust that God has a plan. Flynn asked “what if you have the power to change the course of history? Does that mean nothing’s meant to be? Does that mean God’s not there? Would he stop me?” When the priest asked what he was asking, Flynn responded, “I’m asking for absolution.”

Garcia Flynn (Goran Višnjić) asking the priest (Charles Rahi Chun) for absolution

Jiya is observing men in suits taking over Mason Industries, “guess this is what North Korea is like” she sarcastically tells Rufus. As she sits down at her computer Rufus tells her that whatever happens, just do what they say and everything’s going to be fine as he slyly slips a phone into her jacket pocket.

Lucy shows up asking if Flynn made another jump. Agent Neville welcomes them, “I, for one, am sick of waiting for Garcia Flynn to dictate our actions. We’re gonna take the son of a bitch out once and for all.” Rufus asks how, to which Agent Neville replies  “1962. Houston, Texas”. Lucy knows it’s a year before the JFK assassination but asked why Houston? Agent Neville tells them they are to eliminate Maria Thompkins, Flynn’s mother who was only a 17-year-old junior at Sam Houston High School at the time. He introduces them to their new tactical commander, Sergeant Major Caleb Sullivan, who will take care of the mission. “So you want us to play wingmen to the Terminator over there?” Rufus exclaims and asks if Connor Mason was fine with all of this happening. When Rufus and Lucy refuse the assignment, Agent Neville reminds them that this operation has been green-lit at the highest levels and if they refuse, they’ll be charged with aiding and abetting a wanted terrorist.

Lucy (Abigail Spencer), Jiya (Claudia Doumit), and Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) listen to the orders Agent Neville (Jim Beaver) is giving them

Benjamin Cahill shows up and apologizes to Lucy for Agent Neville’s bedside manner. She’s upset that he wants an innocent girl murdered, all in order to save Rittenhouse. Lucy tells him to go to hell, but he grabs her by the arm and makes a compromise that if she does this one mission, the next one will be saving her sister. He promises to honor the deal she made with Agent Christopher.

Lucy isn’t used to buckling the Lifeboat seatbelt and is hesitant to ask Caleb for help, whereas Wyatt automatically buckles her in every mission. Rufus warns Caleb about the queasy feeling on re-entry, where he makes a smart remark to not worry about him. They jump to Houston, Texas on May 3, 1962. Upon landing, Rufus turns around and shoots Caleb with a tranquilizer dart. Lucy takes Caleb’s gun and he passes out into her lap. Rufus quickly makes another jump out of there.

Alarms go off as the Mason Industries computer system starts glitching and loses track of the Lifeboat. Mason rushes to the computers, only to find the system is crashing. A mini Mason pops up on screens with the phrase “eat me”. Mason recognizes it as Rufus’ work. Mason quickly lashes out at Jiya and says she can’t be trusted.

The system crashed at Mason Industries

Wyatt and Agent Christopher are waiting for Rufus and Lucy to show up at an abandoned warehouse. Wyatt is proud of them for pulling this off. “So we just stole a giant piece of top-secret machinery and made ourselves fugitives from the U.S. government. All good” Lucy says as she paces back and forth. Wyatt assures them that they made the right choice, “If Rittenhouse is running the shop, they can’t have the time machine.”

Rufus starts worrying about how much time they have until Mason gets the system up and can track them again, but Wyatt calms him by telling him to take one step at a time. Wyatt proposes that they go to get Amy back for Lucy since they no longer work for the government. But all plans are put on hold as Flynn makes a jump to 1931.

Flynn arrives at a hotel where he has something of vital interest for the man putting a golf ball on a pool table. Flynn hands over the tax ledgers that were seized during a raid of his establishments for the tax evasion case that’s built against the one and only, Al Capone. Al doesn’t believe Flynn until he pulls the letter out from Al’s accountant, Mr. Mattingly, who makes some scandalous accusations which will send him to prison. He tells Flynn that he owes him a debt of gratitude.

Rufus calls Jiya on the burner phone she was unaware that she had. He warns Jiya of the trouble they’re in and he needs her to run interference to delay and distract Mason from finding the Lifeboat, however she can do it, for as long as she can. Jiya hides the phone and walks out to find Agent Neville eavesdropping on her. He asks who she was talking to then searches her pockets. Searching the room, he finds the phone and orders her to be isolated and prevented from leaving the building.

The Time Team arrive in Chicago on March 13, 1931. Lucy is concerned by how badly they stick out being dressed for the 1960s and Wyatt in present day clothes. The only place Lucy can think Flynn will be is at the courthouse where Al Capone is to be found guilty of tax evasion. However, Judge Wilkerson has no choice but to drop all charges against Capone due to lack of evidence, and the team wonder how Flynn got him off.

Lucy sees Eliot Ness leaving the courthouse and knows he would be the one who can help track down Capone and Flynn. They get his attention by saying they’re private investigators, “I’m Connery. This is Costner. This here is our driver, Robert De Niro” are the aliases Wyatt gives him. They tell him they’re trying to get information on a man with Capone, who is the most dangerous gangster in San Francisco. Lucy tells Ness that William Randolph Hearst hired them himself.

Rufus, Lucy, and Wyatt introduce themselves to Eliot Ness (Misha Collins)

Jiya tries asking for a bathroom break. Agent Neville and Mason enter the room where she’s being held to discuss how Rufus has covered his tracks. When asked, Jiya still doesn’t know where Rufus went to. Mason reminds her she’s in trouble with National Security Agency. She calls him a coward which he threatens her to help them or be arrested.

Eliot Ness takes the Time Team back to his “rat trap” apartment, where he lives because of the death threats he received after Capone attacked his family. They ask where they can find Capone because it’s important they find Flynn. There’s a knock at the door and suddenly bullets are pouring into the apartment. Shocked, Lucy realizes that Ness has been killed. “he’s not supposed to die for another 26 years” she informs Wyatt and Rufus. Wyatt tells them that they need to get out of there before the cops show because they don’t have IDs and he’s wearing buttonfly jeans from The Gap. Rufus tells her there’s nothing they can do.

Eliot Ness killed by one of Capone’s men.

They break into yet another car to look for Capone. Rufus asks about finding Flynn, to which Wyatt replies “one problem at a time.” Wyatt asked Lucy “if Al Capone’s supposed to be behind bars, how do we put him there?” Lucy suddenly thinks of somebody who may be able to help. They knock on a door late at night, asking if the man is Richard Hart. Lucy tells him they need help regarding his brother, Al Capone.

Lucy hopes that Richard Hart will help bring in Al Capone

Lucy calls him out for being Jimmy Capone, born James Vincenzo Capone, who left Brooklyn at 16 and changed his name for a fresh start, then wound up becoming a prohibition agent. Richard’s family doesn’t know the truth about his real identity. He asks if Al sent them, to which Rufus responds “do we look like mobsters to you?” Lucy tells them they only came to him because they really need his help. Wyatt informs Richard that Al has killed Ness, and Lucy adds that they need Richard to take them to see Al and arrest him. Richard thinks they’re crazy. He tells them he hasn’t seen Al in over 20 years, “what makes you think I can waltz in there and see him now?” he asks. Lucy informs Richard that Al has been placing ads in newspapers, looking for him all over the country. She asks if he became a cop as a way of setting right what Al has done wrong.

The mayor of Chicago is brought in by Capone’s men and introduced to Flynn. “This is the guy who touched the Untouchable Eliot Ness” Al says. The mayor is in disbelief that Flynn found Ness but he couldn’t. “He’s done more for me in one day than you’ve done since I put your sorry ass in office and the only thing he asked in return is to talk to you” Capone tells him. Flynn punches him in the stomach and says he’s a member of Rittenhouse. Flynn tells him he has some questions and needs honest answers. He beats the mayor up to get answers about details of the Rittenhouse meeting. He tells Flynn the meeting happened 2 years ago and they only occur every 25 years in D.C., making the next summit not until 1954.

Flynn beats up the mayor of Chicago

The Time Team enters the Lexington Hotel with Richard Hart and proceeds to the elevator. Richard sees Frank, whom he hasn’t seen since before puberty. Frank realizes it’s Jimmy and says Al will be over the moon to see him. Rufus tells Lucy and Wyatt that they are totally the Untouchables right now.

Back in the present day, Jiya is still alone but finds equipment and builds a system to run interference on the system that Mason is trying to bring back up.

Frankie brings Richard and the trio up to Al’s place. Al and “Jimmy” pick on each other a little and give each other a hug. Richard introduces the Time team as his friends from California. When Al hands Richard a drink, he tells him he is a prohibition agent, but not a very good one and takes the drink from Al’s hand. Al asks him what he is doing there, and Lucy speaks up, explaining that they asked his brother to come here to look for Garcia Flynn. Al admits to seeing him and says he’s a man of his word. Rufus asks if he mentioned Rittenhouse and Al tells them about the summit in 1954. Richard tells Al he’s taking him in, and suddenly everybody has drawn their guns. Al tells them the favor Flynn asked of him was to take out the colored fella so they can’t follow Flynn anymore. Wyatt reacts and pushes Rufus, but Al still manages to shoot him. Richard then shoots and kills his own brother while Wyatt kills Frankie.

Benjamin Cahill enters Mason’s office to discuss the systems outage and whether they’ll be able to locate them upon arriving back. Mason mentions needing access to the NSA Data Farm’s exabytes of raw data in Utah to get speedier results. He tells Cahill that his team developed an advanced mining software, giving them the ability to tap cell phones, email accounts, satellites, traffic cams, etc. If their test works, they’ll have the capability to pinpoint anyone, anywhere, at any time they want.

Benjamin Cahill makes a visit to Connor Mason’s (Paterson Joseph) office

Wyatt suggests taking Rufus to a hospital, but Lucy knows he’ll get terrible service and it’s segregated at that. Wyatt is concerned that their faces will be on every single government watchlist when they go back. He apologizes for not reacting faster. “One problem at a time” Rufus reminds him, then tells them “Get me to the Lifeboat. I’ll take us home.” Although an ambulance is on the way, they thank Richard for his help and decide to get Rufus back to the Lifeboat on their own.

As they arrive back at the Lifeboat in their stolen car, they try to get Rufus situated in the pilot’s seat. He’s lost so much blood it’s hard for him to stay conscious.

It’s a race against time to get Rufus back to present day and to get the medical treatment he needs. But with Rittenhouse in control of Mason Industries, it’s going to be nearly impossible to remain below the radar.
