*warning: spoilers ahead!

What a big surprise it was when Lucy was late to her own engagement party and the revelation of meeting her fiance, Noah, for the first time at the end of episode 2. As if she wasn’t already drained enough from traveling back from 1865 after witnessing the event of Garcia Flynn assassinating Abraham Lincoln, now she has to not act surprised by all the people around.

Lucy is up early the next morning looking through photo albums filled with pictures of her and her fiance who she has no memories with. Noah walks into the room and wonders why she didn’t come to bed the previous night. Lucy explains that she was feeling nostalgic and Noah starts looking through the pictures with her, asking if she remembers that day. Lucy tries playing it cool but makes it awkward. Noah reminds her it was the day they got engaged. He then pulls out the engagement ring she had left in the bathroom and puts it back on her finger. She tells Noah “my head is somewhere else”, when suddenly she gets a phone call from Mason Industries.

Lucy (Abigail Spencer) looks through a photo album with “memories” of her and her fiance, Noah (Daniel di Tomasso), whom she just met the night before.

We see a little more of Wyatt’s life at home. He’s looking at newspaper clippings of articles about his wife going missing and being found deceased. As he’s reading the articles over and over, he gets the call about Flynn’s latest time-jump.

Connor Mason has Jiya work on tracking down the Mothership, since nobody can figure out a significant event that took place on September 21, 1962, the day to which Flynn jumped in time. While Jiya works on that, Connor Mason pulls Rufus aside to talk about Anthony. He questions Anthony’s behavior before the kidnapping, mentions he made a call to a now disconnected number, then flat out tells Rufus he believes Anthony assisted Flynn’s from the inside. Rufus, in complete denial, adamantly says Anthony is the victim. Jiya then finds the Mothership within a 50 mile radius from Las Vegas.

Lucy searches for possible events that happened on September 21, 1962 to determine Flynn’s destination

Before the Lifeboat takes off, Wyatt notices Lucy’s new engagement ring as he helps buckle her seatbelt. All she knows is his name is Noah and she has no recollection of him. Wyatt asks if she planned on taking his name and she responded, “I don’t even know his last name.”

Wyatt (Matt Lanter) asks Lucy about her new engagement ring

Upon arriving in the desert right outside of Las Vegas, the time team see an atomic bomb exploding. Rufus thinks they are too late, but Lucy explains that before Las Vegas was known as “Sin City” people called it “Atomic City.”

They arrive at The Sands hotel where they expect to find President John F. Kennedy, and an assortment of other famous people, including politicians and mobsters. Looking for Flynn is impossible with the tight security around the building. Rufus disappears while Lucy and Wyatt discuss how they plan on keeping everybody safe while Wyatt takes out Flynn. Rufus nonchalantly comes back with uniforms. Lucy is perplexed and asked how he got those. “‘Cuz in 1962 I’m pretty much invisible. It’s my super power.” It’s an instance in which Rufus’ race actually plays in his favor for this particular event. Wearing the uniforms, Lucy and Rufus stare in awe watching the live performances of stars in 1962. “Ever think you’d see the Rat Pack?” Lucy asked Rufus, in which he responds, “Despite the unrelenting fear, this job does have its moments.”

Rufus then sees Anthony at the bar and tries getting him to go with them. Anthony can’t believe Rufus found him and tells him he needs to go or Flynn’s guy will shoot him when he returns. Rufus asks “Why would he? You’re his prisoner.. who’s completely unsupervised.. You are his prisoner, right, Anthony?.. You’re helping Garcia Flynn?? What does he have on you?” Rufus is appalled. “All means to an end, right? Here’s to the amazing Christy Pitt.” Anthony toasts out loud. Rufus doesn’t understand who Anthony is talking about but he takes off before Flynn’s guy returns.

Lucy and Wyatt see Flynn dressed as a waiter. He approaches a woman and tells her she has an urgent phone call. When she leaves the room, Flynn grabs her by the arm and tells her to do exactly what he says. Wyatt tracks them down and attacks Flynn. The woman takes off, running into Lucy and Rufus, who desperately ask her, “Are you okay? Why is he after you?” “Are you Christy Pitt?” She tells them that she is Judith Campbell, which sparks recognition for Lucy.

Rufus (Malcolm Barrett), Lucy, and Wyatt try to figure out what Flynn wants with Judith Campbell (Elena Satine)

From the get go, Wyatt is hard on Judith. All he cares about is taking out Flynn and he’s determined to get it done that night. As Judith is out of the room freshening up, Lucy explains that she is the mistress of both mob boss, Sam Giancana and JFK. Judith delivers the messages from JFK to the mob to take out Fidel Castro. She was at the dead center of 1960s politics, so what does Flynn want with her? He has blackmailed her with pictures of her and Kennedy together, which could cost him the next election. Lucy is fascinated with Judith, knowing her place in history and admiring her for living the life she’s living, and seeing the people and things she’s seen. Lucy asks her if she could ever go back to her old life style. All Lucy wants is to go back to the life she had before when she had her sister Amy and no fiance.

Wyatt tells Lucy he’s making the calls and comes up with a plan to use Judith as bait to draw Flynn to her hotel room. He sends Rufus and Lucy downstairs while he watches over Judith. She sees Flynn outside and as Wyatt waits around the corner for Flynn, Judith knocks Wyatt out with the phone. She runs off to the elevator where she’s greeted by Flynn and leaves with him.

Lucy and Rufus find Wyatt disoriented in the hallway. He gets angry and walks away. Wyatt passes a Telegram booth and stops to leave a Telegram for his future wife, telling her to go home with him on Saturday, February 11, 2012, even if he’s being an ass. Lucy sees Wyatt and he explains “It worked in Back to the Future 2.” Lucy sympathizes with him, explaining that she too would do anything to get her sister back.

Flynn takes Judith to see a military General, whom we learn she knows intimately. She sends the General off to get her a drink so she can look through his office for a set of keys for Flynn. When she gets back in the car she swaps the keys for the photos and negatives that Flynn had on her. He tells her there’s one more stop, and he takes her to the site of an atomic bomb.

Rufus finds Lucy and Wyatt exclaiming that he knows why Flynn is here. “‘Christy Pitt’ is not a person, it’s THE ‘Christy pit’ named after the physicst, Robert Christy. It’s slang for an A-bomb’s plutonium core.” Realizing the stakes in Flynn’s goal, the realize that they need to the nuclear test site to stop him. Rufus pretends to be valet, and a man hands over the keys to car without batting an eye. “See? Invisible.” as Rufus proves his point about his race.

They find Flynn and Anthony outside the test site, where Wyatt gets into a standoff with Flynn and his men, Rufus attempts to recover the nuke and Lucy tries to get Judith to safety. Anthony hands Rufus a suitcase, so Rufus tells Wyatt to back down. Flynn, Anthony, and the other guys get away in a truck. Wyatt tries to take a shot at Anthony, but Rufus jumps in way saying they have the suitcase. But, when Rufus opens the suitcase he goes into a panic. Anthony has switched out the suitcases.

Agent Christopher questions them upon their return, “What did Flynn want in Vegas?” They do their best to explain, but don’t know why he wants the atomic core. Lucy tries to remain positive, saying they protected Judith Campbell and kept history the same. “But Flynn is still alive and got away with an atomic bomb” is Agent Christopher’s reply. Rufus interjects, “On the upside, we’re finally starting to gel as a team.”

Agent Christopher asks them if they believe if Anthony is working for Flynn. She tells them “We don’t have to save Anthony Bruhl anymore. We just need to eliminate him. Leave Flynn without somebody to pilot the Mothership.”

Connor Mason asks Jiya to work on finding the Mothership in the present time. Lucy finds Wyatt looking up articles on the computer to only find out his telegram didn’t save his wife.

Wyatt’s attempt to change history with a telegram from the past has not prevented his wife’s death

Back at home, Lucy decides she can’t live with a fiance she doesn’t know at all. Noah finds hr with her bags packed and asks what’s going on. Lucy tells him she’s going to stay at her mom’s for a while and he tells her to take all the time she needs. Lucy is relieved he’s okay with spending time apart.

Lucy tells Noah that she is going to stay at her mother’s house for a while.

Back at Mason Industries, Rufus thanks Wyatt for not throwing him under the bus for blocking the shot on Anthony. Rufus asks Wyatt why this is happening to them. Wyatt responds with “I don’t get trained in ‘why’ just the who, what, where, and when.” Rufus, not having the mindset of a soldier asks, “But without the why, how can you be sure we’re on the right side of things?” Leaving Wyatt to ponder.

Jiya finds the Mothership’s current location in the present to within a 50 mile radius. As she’s trying to narrow it down more, we see that Flynn’s men are digging up something that they buried in 1962. Anthony pulls out the plutonium core, still intact.

It’s been a rocky start for this trio. So much has changed in Lucy’s personal life, every jump back in time makes Wyatt want to somehow fix the past to help bring his dead wife back, and although Rufus is forced to spy on them, he does feel that the trio are starting to “gel as a team.”
