Timeless never fails to impress. This episode’s opening scene captures a moment of courageous women marching for their rights in 1919. As the women are peacefully marching, they encounter the police and are brutally beaten – a normal occurrence for protesting women during that period. Alice Paul, a prominent suffragist at the time, catches the attention of President Woodrow Wilson at the march right before he gives a speech about the League of Nations. Her speech touches him so deeply that months later the 19th Amendment was passed, granting women the right to vote.
Switching to the time team’s bunker in 2018, we see Lucy telling Flynn she’s done taking up his time, leaving his room with Vodka bottle in hand. Wyatt just happens to see Lucy leaving Flynn’s room and you can see jealousy beginning to enrage him.
Meanwhile Nicholas Keynes is sending Emma on a mission, but orders her to only fly the Mothership and let another agent do the dirty work. He doesn’t want anything happening to her.
Rufus keeps bringing up Jiya’s latest vision of him dying, and needless to say he’s not handling it well. After Rufus says some harsh things to Jiya, the alarm goes off from the Mothership jumping. Rufus, Lucy, and Wyatt run into the Lifeboat and as Flynn is about to climb the ladder, Wyatt tries pushing it away. He tells Flynn they don’t need him, but Agent Christopher says there’s now four chairs so Flynn is to go with them as it’s better to have more eyes out there. Wyatt had told Flynn to stay away from Lucy earlier and now Flynn enjoys instigating conflict with Wyatt. These two have funny back and forth bickering throughout the episode.
Once arriving in New York City, the four are trying to find where the president would be since they think Rittenhouse is after Wilson. However Rittenhouse has killed Senator Wadsworth and framed Alice Paul for his murder. She is now locked up and can’t deliver her important speech which will influence President Wilson.
Lucy and Wyatt pretend to be Alice’s lawyers, but the cops say there are orders that she isn’t allowed visitors. Lucy remembers that “Mrs. Sherlock Holmes” is in the same building. They find Grace Humiston, one of the first female detectives, and one of the best at that. Grace calls out Lucy and Wyatt’s tension and is spot on with what is wrong between them. Lucy finally talks Grace into speaking to Alice, but when they finally get back to her jail cell, they find Alice dead.
Lucy starts to get emotional about who will give the speech because it’s crucial that it occurs on that day. Grace can’t see eye to eye with the women protesters as she has worked hard to get where she is and own everything she has. She thinks all other women should e able to do it too. Lucy is convinced that without that speech that the future without the 19th Amendment will be a nightmare to women everywhere.
Grace, Lucy, and Wyatt show up to where the women are gathering for the march. They inform the women that Alice is dead and they need to figure out who is going to give the speech in her place. When nobody rises to the challenge, Lucy speaks passionately about how important this will be. They all then suggest she give the speech. Wyatt tries talking Lucy out of it but Lucy finally speaks her mind to him about how she’s felt since Jessica has been back. She walks away from Wyatt saying she has a speech to give.

I am really enjoying the chemistry between Flynn and Rufus this season. I think it’s a great bromance in the making. The two are checking out the crime scene when suddenly a cop shows up. They pretended to be “dicks” aka detectives and Rufus comes up with their “Die Hard” aliases, John McClane and Hans Gruber. The cop thinks Flynn is reaching for a weapon and has them put their hands up. Rufus suddenly has confidence in knowing he’s not going to die because Jiya’s premonition of his death involves cowboys. Rufus shouts “Flynn it up, Flynn!” (which is my favorite line from the entire episode). However, Flynn has not acted on Rufus’ impulse command but the cop is shot dead anyways. To their surprise, they turn around to find Emma has saved them.

Flynn doesn’t take any chances with Emma and overpowers her, taking her gun away. They go somewhere where it is safe for the three of them to speak. Emma finally reveals her backstory of coming from an abusive father and how her mother finally had the courage to get away. She then went off to college, where Rittenhouse came looking for her due to her high test scores. She convinces Flynn and Rufus that she is on their side this time, as she does not want the impact of the 19th Amendment to be lost. She tells them she knows who the sleeper agent is and has been preparing to kill them herself.
Meanwhile back at the bunker, Connor Mason has been working on putting together computer parts found during Wyatt’s raid in the previous episode, hoping they can find information on Rittenhouse’s plans. When Connor finally gets access to some blurry images, he and Agent Christopher discover a picture of Jessica. Agent Christopher tells Mason to keep it between the two of them, because they don’t know what to believe or who to trust.

Back in 1919, Lucy is preparing herself to give the speech at the march. Wyatt follows her from a distance, then Rufus and Flynn catch up to him. They tell Wyatt that Emma is there to kill the sleeper agent also. As the march is beginning, the sleeper agent pulls Lucy into an alley. As she is about to shoot Lucy, her gun appears to be out of bullets. Grace surprises them and explains how she has figured out who Alice Paul’s was. Then Emma shows up, which sends Lucy running to hide. However, Emma sticks to her word and kills the sleeper agent. Emma tells the “princess” that she has a speech to make.
As the violence breaks out in the march, Lucy sees President Wilson arrive to give his speech. Lucy starts yelling for him but struggles to get the his attention. As it turns out, Grace, moved by what she has seen in the march, stands up and gives such an inspirational speech, that it gets the attention of President Wilson. Wyatt celebrates with Lucy that she is the one who made this happen.

When they get back to present day, Wyatt confronts Lucy about leaving Flynn’s room that morning. She reminds him that it’s not any of his business about what she does and who she does anything with. She reassures him things are fine and that they’ll continue kicking ass and saving the world together.
Emma arrives back to Nicholas Keynes’s new HQ and makes up an excuse about how the four got away with saving history, again. She reminds him that she only piloted the Mothership as that was his orders. He is happy to assume she had listened to him. He then starts kissing her until the scene ends. I’m not a fan of great grandpa Nicholas, especially after his attempt to take back control of women’s rights. I can only imagine what else he is going to try to change in the last three episodes this season!
